Crime
Crime affects all retailers. However, crimes in convenience stores not only cost retailers money but also have a negative effect on the community, causing fear and distress to both shop staff and residents. Shop crime should be at the heart of the Government’s anti-social behaviour programme.

A reward fund has been set up to help catch the perpetrators of serious violent crime against retailers
ACS has entered into a partnership with Crimestoppers to take a stand against the criminals who carry out violent attacks on shopkeepers. The £50,000 reward fund will be available for police to use to help in gaining information about incidents of violent crime where a retailer has been either murdered or seriously injured.
Although rare, there have been a number of high profile incidents of very serious attacks and murders on retailers in the last two years, enforcing the fact that being killed at work is a very real fear for the thousands of retailers and staff that work in the sector.
While the fund has been created for the most serious incidents, there is also a wider commitment from both ACS and Crimestoppers to raise awareness in the community about the violence experienced by shopkeepers and to encourage people to report information when they witness an incident.
Crimestoppers UK was set up in 1988 to allow people to anonymously report criminal activity. Since its inception, information gained through Crimestoppers has been instrumental in the arrests of over 100,000 people.
